Pravasi Divas to be organised in Singapore in October
New Delhi, May 23 (UNI) The annual "mini" Pravasi Bharatiya Divas (PBD) will be held in Singapore during October 10 to 11 this year, the Overseas Indian Affairs (OIA) Ministry announced today.
This is the second edition of the mini PBD, which is being organised outside the country every year since 2007.
The main PBD is organised within the country during January 7 to 9 every year since 2002. Since it is difficult for all the Persons of Indian Origin (PIOs) and Non Resident Indians (NRIs) to come to India to attend the PBD here, it was decided to organise a smaller version of the PBD in different foreign countries every year so that the Indians settled there could participate.
The first edition of the mini PBD was organised in New York last year.
Overseas Indian Affairs Minister Vayalar Ravi told mediapersons that the PBD in Singapore would help to ensure the participation of the PIOs in Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand and African Countries.
