Orissa moots development plan for Kalinganagar Industrial complex

Bhubaneswar, May 23 (UNI) A comprehensive development plan for the infrastructure development of the Kalinganagar Industrial area would be chalked out soon, Orissa Finance Minister Prafulla Ghadhei said.

Mr Ghadhei said bidding for preparing the draft plan for the purpose had already started and six companies, including IIT Kharagpur, had shown interest in it.

Mr Ghadhei said very soon a decision in this regard would be taken.

The Minister said the government had identified 200 acres of land for the construction of an airport at Kanchichua near Mangalpur.

The Steel and Mines Secretary had been asked to coordinate with the Civil Aviation department and finalise the project.

The Minister said a decision was also taken to identify 5000 acres of land for the rehabilitation of the displaced people. The TATA steel company would construct rehabilitation colony, school, college, playground, hospital and quarter for its employees on the land.

The government, he said, would provide more land for the construction of quarters to various industrial units in the complex.

The Minister said out of the nine industrial units, set up in Kalinganagar, eight had already started production.

The Tata Steel had started its preliminary work and would start its civil construction work soon.

He said three colonies for the rehabilitation of the displaced people had already been constructed at Gobarghati, Sansailo and Trijang.

Land had been identified for the construction of two more colonies at Mantira and Bargadia.

The state-owned Industrial Development Corporation would start the civil construction for the rehabilitation colony soon. The government, the Finance Minister said, had taken up the four laning of the 14-km-long Duburi-Jajpur road at an estimated cost of Rs 100 crore.
