NCSM to open 6 more science centres
Bangalore, May 23 (UNI) National Council of Science Museums (NCSM), Kolkata will open six more regional science centres in the country, council director general Ingit Mukherjee said today.
Talking to mediapersons here, he said the Centres would come up in Dharwad, Mangalore, Ranchi, Raipur, Solapur and Jaipur. The Council had already established 27 Science Museums across the country.
Mr Mukherjee said each centre would cost Rs 8.5 crore.
He said the Regional Centres opened by the NCSM would be handed over to respective state governments for maintenance. However, adequate training for the staff for maintenance would be provided by the NCSM.
Mr Mukherjee was here in connection with the opening of a new fully hands-on gallery 'Fun Science' developed by the Vivesvaraya Industrial and Technological Museum (VITM) for learning science through fun.
The gallery, spread over an area of 700 sq m consists of 50 interactive exhibits and a state-of-the-art digital 3-D Theatre.
Developed at a cost of Rs 90 lakh, exhibits in the gallery have been conceputalised to provide the visitors maximum fun and excitement in learning science.
The 'Fun Science'' gallery was inaugurated by renowned Biotechnologist, IISc, Bangalore, Prof G Padmanabhan.
