Irrigation Dept engineers sentenced for corruption

Hyderabad, May 23 (UNI) The Special Judge for ACB cases, Nellore, today sentenced to Irrigation Department engineers in the district to one year rigorous imprisonment under the Prevention of Corruption Act.

The judge also slapped a fine of Rs 10,000 each on them, according to a release here today.

They were further sentenced to undergo rigorous imprisonment for two years and a fine of Rs 10,000 imposed for offences under various sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act.

Former Superintending Engineer G Raghupathi and Former Executive Engineer Y Muniratnam Naidu were trapped when they accepted a bribe of Rs 20,000 from the complainant for an official favour.

In another case, the Andhra Pradesh Government permanently withheld the entire pension and gratuity of Former Senior Assistant in Divisional Forest Office in Nalgonda, Y Krishna Rao, following his conviction by the Special Judge for ACB cases here.

He was trapped in 1998 by ACB officials when he accepted bribe of Rs 50,000 from a contractor to do an official favour, the release added.
