Lucknow, May 23 (UNI) In a sudden move, the Uttar Pradesh government today appointed Atul Kumar Gupta as the new Chief Secretary of the state.
Mr Gupta, 1974 batch Indian Adminstrative Service (IAS) officer, has succeeded Mr P K Mishra, who sought voluntary retirement.
Mr Mishra, 1972 batch IAS, was to retire from service in August.
The order of Mr Gupta's appointment was issued this evening, an offical spokesperson told UNI here.
He had applied for Voluantary Retirement Scheme (VRS), which was accepted by the Government of India.
Mr Gupta was Industrial Development Commissioner (IDC) prior to this posting.
