5 killed, 9 injured in mishap near Bhandara
Nagpur, May 23 (UNI) Five people, including two women and two girls, were killed and nine others injured, two of them seriously, when their jeep fell off a bridge into a nullah in Bhandara district of Maharashtra today.
The mishap occurred when the jeep veered out of control while trying to overtake a truck on the bridge, at village Singur, about 11 kilometres from Bhandara, in early today, police said.
The ill-fated vehicle, on its way from Pachmarhi in Madhya Pradesh to Raipur, overturned after falling nearly 25 feet below the bridge into the nullah, killing five people on the spot, they said.
The deceased have been identified as Surekha Ajay Baghel (37), Ajay Baghel (40), both residents of Bhilai, Saral Prakhar Bansor (11), Vandita Sharma (15), and Pushpa Harshavardhan Bansod (35), all residents of Raipur, Chhattisgarh, they said.
The injured have been admitted to hospital in Bhandara, while those hurt seriously have been shifted to Nagpur, they added.
