Woman dies after MP CM's programme
Umaria, MP, May 22 (UNI) An old woman was allegedly trampled to death in a minor stampede for food packets being distributed among women and other people on the conclusion of 'Mahila Virat Sammelan' organised by the district administration here.
Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan and Animal Husbandry Minister and district incharge minister Ramakant Tiwari had left the venue after addressing the programme.
Pinaura-resident Krishnabai Gupta (55) was killed in the incident. There was no report of any other injury.
Police said post-mortem of the body was done at hospital here this evening. Collector Madhu Khare and Superintendent of Police S R Yuvne could not be contacted till late evening.
Meanwhile, Sub-Divisional Officer of Police Mahaveer Singh Mujalde claimed that the woman died due to heart attack. She had consumed water after staying in sun for long time.
Meanwhile, state Congress spokesperson Manak Agrawal issued a statement in the state capital alleging that food was being thrown for the purpose of distribution causing chaos during which the woman died. He demanded strict action against guilty officials.
