Spending Rs 10,328.20 Crore To Effect OBC Reservation
New Delhi, May 22 (UNI) The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs today approved spending Rs 10328.20 crore to implement 27 per cent higher education reservation for Other Backward Classes-- than scheduled castes and tribes.
The money will be spent to expand enrolment capacities in central universities and management and technical institutions by 54 per cent-- to be divided evenly between OBC and mainstream students, the Human Resource Development Ministry said.
The Cabinet Committee approved in principle financial estimates for implementing the report of an 'Oversight Committee' headed by M Veerappa Moily.
A Ministry statement said implementing the recommendations of the Oversight Committee-- and an Empowered Committee-- will benefit students in those institutions.
The outlay includes Rs 4107.91 crore in recurring expenditure and Rs 6220.29 crore in non-recurring expenditure, it said.
