Rs 10,328 cr for educational infrastructure for OBCs
New Delhi, May 22 (UNI) The Government today 'in principle' approved an outlay of Rs 10,328.20 crore for the infrastructure development of central universities and management and technical institutions for their capacity expansion by 54 per cent to accommodate 27 per cent reservation for Other Backward Classes (OBCs).
''The expenditure incurred during the plan period will be to improve the basic physical infrastructure required to accommodate additional intake of OBC students without affecting the number of general category candidates,'' Finance Minister P Chidambaram said after the meeting of Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) that gave the approval.
Of the total amount, Rs 4,107.91 crore will be of recurring nature, while the remaining Rs 6,220.29 crore will be non-recurring expenditure, as recommendation the Expenditure Finance Committeee, Mr Chidambaram said.
