Jawan dismissed from service for alleged rape attempt
Imphal, May 22 (UNI) An Assam Rifles jawan has been dismissed from service and sentenced to two years' imprisonment for alleged attempt to rape a girl in Manipur.
Assam Rifles sources said Rifleman Namthuipou Gangmei attempted to rape the girl in March, 2007. He also hit the girl with a stone.
A Staff Court of Inquiry was convened by Headquarters 9 Sector of Assam Rifles which found Gangmei guilty.
