Govt official convicted in Hyderabad

Hyderabad, May 22: Additional Special Judge for SPE and ACB cases in Hyderabad today setenced a Panchayat Raj (Rural Water Supply) Assistant Engineer at Nandyal in Kurnool District to one-year rigorous imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs 3,500 in a trap case.

The accused would have to undergo six months simple imprisonment in case he defaulted in payment of fine under Section 7 of Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988.

The accused was arrested for accepting Rs 7,000 from a contractor to do official favour of clearing payment of bill worth Rs two lakh.
