New Delhi, May 22 (UNI) BJP Delhi Cantonment MLA Karan Singh Tanwar today demanded the resignations of Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit and president of the Delhi Pradesh Congress committee Jai Parkash Agarwal in view of the heavy defeat of the party in the Delhi Cantonment elections.

Addressing a press conference here, Mr Tanwar alleged that the Delhi Chief Minister and the DPCC chief had made the Cantonment elections a prestige issue.

''Not only did they canvas and demand votes from the public by publicising works done by the Delhi Government in the last nine years and under the so called efficient leadership of Mr J P Agarwal but they also declared these elections a semi finals to the ensuing election to the Delhi Legislative Assembly.

But the public of the Delhi Cantonment has outrightly rejected the Congress - while the BJP won five out of eight seats of the Delhi Cantonment Board, the Congress could manage to bag only two seats. One of its candidates even lost his deposit and two of its candidates have had to eat humble pie by figuring a poor third,''Mr Tanwar said.

Mr Tanwar alleged that the Congress is trying to cover up its defeat and failure but it is a fact that the public of the Delhi Cantonment has given them a befitting reply for their biased attitude and misrule in Delhi.

''Though the Sheila Dikshit Government of Delhi always worked with a bias and revengeful attitude against me, the public of the Delhi Cantonment have always praised my efforts and struggle for the development and progress of their area and have, therefore, rewarded us with full majority of the party in the Delhi Cantonment Board,''the BJP MLA said.
