Dalit shot dead, two held in Atara village

Hardoi, May 22: Two people have been arrested for killing a Dalit gram pradhan today in this district of Uttar Pradesh.

Atara village gram pradhan Rampal left his home early this morning for Umrapul on a mortorcycle.

On the way he was intercepted by armed assailants, who opened fire upon him, killing him on the spot, SSP Surendra Verma said.

Reportedly, he also had a criminal background.

Irked over the brutal murder, villagers created ruckus and blocked roads disrupting regular traffic for long.

The block could only be lifted after police officials assured early arrest of the criminals. However, police has been garrisoned in the area to avoid any untoward incident.

The body of the deceased has been sent for postmortem.

Police has arrested two persons besides, lodging FIR against eight others in this regard.
