Bijnor residents attack police station over custodial death

Bijnor, May 22 : Enraged residents of Bijnor District resorted to violence today after Nemi Sharan, a local died in police custody.

A police constable was accused of ruthlessly beating Sharan to death.

The stand-off started when enraged residents carried the corpse of Sharan and placed it outside the police station demanding action against police officials responsible for his death.

They also damaged the police station and set a police jeep and motorcycle on fire.

Police claimed the situation is now under control.
