Stage set for Third

Bangalore, May 21 (UNI) Stage was all set for third and final phase of polling to the Karnataka Legislative Assembly in 69 constituencies tomorrow.

In all 1,17,62,784 electorates, including 57,61,457 Women and 60,01,327 Men, will decide the political fortunes of 699 candidates including 284 independents contesting inn eight districts of Belgaum, Dharwad, Haveri, Bidar, Gulbarga, Bijapur, Bagalkot and Gadag.

The electoral fortunes of bigwig politicians, including former Chief Minister N Dharam Singh, KPCC president and former Minister Mallikarjuna Kharge, former Leader of the Opposition in the Legislative Council H K Patil, former Ministers Gurupadappa Nagamarapalli, Jagdish Shettar, C M Udasi and Govind Karjol, would be sealed tomorrow.

Mr Singh, aiming for a record win, had represented Jewargi eight times consecutively, while Mr Patil was testing his popularity for the first time in an Assembly election.

In the first two phase of elections held on May 10 and May 16 recorded polling of 66 per cent (89 seats) and 66.3 per cent (66 seats) per cent respectively.

In all 12389 polling booths have been set up and among these 4358 have been clasified as hyper sensitive and 4038 as sensitive.

More than 53000 personal were involved for conduct of election in fair and peaceful manner.

About 56,000 security personal, including 225 Companies of Central Para Military Force (CPMF), would be deployed to assist the local police in maintaining law and order during the polling.

Polling will be held from 0700 hrs to 1700 hrs.

Counting of votes would be taken up on May 25.
