Srinagar, May 21 (UNI) Rejecting the 2008 assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir, the Hurriyat Conference (Mirwaiz) chairman Mirwaiz Moulvi Omar Farooq today invited the mainstream political parties to join them to find a durable solution to the Kashmir issue.

'' We reject election or selection,'' Mirwaiz Omar said at a public meeting organised at Eidgah graveyard on the 18th death anniversary of Mirwaiz Moulvi Mohammad Farooq.

He said he wanted to make it clear once and for all that the Hurriyat will never become a party to any election process in the state.

Mirwaiz Omar said elections were being held in Jammu and Kashmir since 1947, without making any breakthrough on the Kashmir issue.

He said elections would not be a solution to the issue which has to be resolved through dialogue among all the three parties-- India, Pakistan and the people of Jammu and Kashmir.

He said, '' Our struggle is not for any chair, subsidy or contracts but for resolution of Kashmir issue.'' Referring to mainstream political parties, he said they should join the Hurriyat to find a lasting and acceptable solution to the issue.

''Let them join us so that we move together and find the solution to this vexed issue,'' he said.

Mirwaiz Omar said autonomy or any other proposal would not be acceptable to the people of Jammu and Kashmir who want the implementation of the U N resolution passed on the issue.

About the visit of President Pratibha Devisingh Patil to Jammu and Kashmir , he said they were not against it.

However, he said, the people wanted to question her about the 940 unidentified graves in Uri, since she was the supreme commander of the Indian Army.

''We want to question her about 10,000 missing people and the Human Rights' violations being committed by the security forces in the state,'' he added.
