Sugar prices rise on improved bulk consumers demand

Navi Mumbai, May 20 (UNI) Prices of wholesale sugar maintained an upward trend on heavy bulk consumers demand today in the face of lesser arrivals from cooperative mills, traders at the Bombay Sugar Merchants Association said.

Prices of small and medium grades sugar were up by Rs 15 and Rs 10 per quintal each on shortage of of stocks by mills.

However, ex-mill prices of small and medium grades also gained by Rs five each owing to sustained buying by stockists, traders added.

Following were the spot wholesale rates of sugar per quintal: Small grade: Rs 1,454/1,510, Medium grade: Rs 1,488/1,575.

Ex-mill small grade: Rs 1,430/1,460 and medium grade: Rs 1,470/1,500 UNI AR OBB SKB1717
