Killer brew toll touches 73 in K'taka
Bangalore, May 19 (UNI) The death toll in the Hooch tragedy has touched 73 in Karnataka with 11 more deaths reported from Kolar District and 12 in the city.
According to police, 11 more deaths were reported since last night with break up being in four each in Bangarpet and Malur, one each in Tetal and two in Narasapur. In the City, nine deaths were reported from Athibele area and four in Hoskote.
Hospital sources said that still more than 100, both in Kolar and City, are undergoing treatment and more than 15 are in ICU.
Replying to a question, Bowring Hospital Doctor said that the effect of the illicit liquor would be there for atleast five days so nothing can be said about whether admitted were out of danger or not. However, efforts were made to save the lives.
More than 10 person were arrested by the Police so far.
The Governor Rameshwar Thakur last night announced Rs 50,000 ex-gratia to the families of the deceased and ordered immediate disbursement of Rs 10,000 to the affected.
