Lahore, May 19: Afghanistan's ambassador in Washington, Saeed Jawad has reportedly urged Pakistan to abandon negotiations with tribal elders at areas along the Pak-Afghan border, who, according to him, were 'militants'.

The peace talks Pakistan was holding with militants were "causing concern in Kabul", the Daily Times quoted Jawad as saying in Washington in an interview with a TV channel. He added that peace settlement with militants without safeguards against cross-border infiltration would lead to violence in Afghanistan. According to the report, Jawad's comments echoed US concerns regarding the peace talks, though the US has not asked Pakistan to abandon these talks.
