Sharp shooter held in police encounter

Jaunpur, May 18 (UNI) Police arrested a notorious criminal after a brief encounter in the Line Bazar station here late last night, police said today.

Over suspicion, police intercepted four motorcycle-borne people in Kanahiyapur village.

As the police approached the criminals, they fired at them, The police also resorted to retaliatory firing and held sharp shooter Sunil Singh alias 'tie', Superintendent of police Chandra Prakash said.

However, the other three managed to escape.

A country-made pistol, two cartridges, one motorcycle and about 500 gm of 'narcotic substance' was seized from him.

Sunil was booked in about 10 cases related to loot, murder and other heinous crimes.

Mr Prakash had announced reward for the police team.
