Thane, May 18 (UNI) Maharashtra Congress Chief Prabha Rau today stressed the need that voters to must the right candidate as their representative in the May 22 byelection to the Thane Lok Sabha Constituency.

Addressing an election rally at the Indira Nagar square here as part of the campaign for NCP-Congress combined candidate Sanjiv Naik, she said voters should not take things for granted and vote wisely, electing those who bridge the nation and not break it.

She said, ''If at all you do not not want to repent later and be a part of the development process, you should go in for the right candidate.'' The communal and religious forces should be thrown out of this election and those deserving should be given an opportunity, she added.

In her brief speech, she traced the history of Gandhi family and said it had been sacrificing something or the other for the sake of the citizens of the country.

Their association with the Congress was erstwhile, and hence, the voters will prefer such party, she claimed.

''In the election, it does not matter whom you vote and neither the state government nor the Centre would be affected by the outcome of the election. However, voters will be affected. Hence, you should ensure to elect the right person,'' she stressed.

Among others who spoke on the occasion included General Secretaries of the NCP Tariq Anwar and Chandrakant Tripathi and the Republican Party of India (RPI) leader Ramdas Athavale.
