Lifer appears for Civil Services Preliminary
Kochi, May 18 (UNI) A youth serving life sentence in Kannur Central Jail, appeared for the Civil Services Preliminary examination here today.
Rijo Joseph, undergoing life sentence since 2005 in a murder case, was brought from the prison and took the exam at the Central School at Kadvanthara.
Joseph, who completed his Masters in English Literature while in jail, had been saving money earned from work to buy books, prison officials accompanying him said. In fact, he was shifted from the Viyyur Central Jail to Kannur Prison to continue his studies.
This is the first time in Kerala's history that a person serving a life sentence had appeared for the civil services examination, they added.
