Blood donation camp for Himachal's Thalessemic children held

Shimla, May 18 (UNI) About fifty persons donated blood at a special camp, mainly for Thalessemic children, organized by Yuva '' Himachal, SDRS (Society for Disability and Rehabilitation Studies) and the State AIDS Control Society.

A poster making contest was also organized on the occasion in which six thalassemic children Aditi, Sahil , Pranjay, Harish and Jasmine along with participants for 15 schools took part.

Manoj of DAV Lakkar Bazaar was adjudged the best artist with Lagrap of Tibetan Central school, Chotta Shimla in second position and Kritika Lamba of DAV school finished third in the contest Yuva '' Himachal convener, Ajai Srivastava said thalassemic children had a right to live as common children''.

''Though they cannot be treated, but we make them comfortable and give them confidence in life,'' he said.

Deputy Commissioner JS Rana, in his address, said on the occasion said that it was a serious matter that component therapy was not being done at IGMC hospital by not using the machine to its full capacity.

He said some parents and representatives of NGOs the issue to his notice and he would take this up with the government.
