AP Dist to be role model in aiding poor students
Kakinada, May 18 (UNI) The East Godavari District is going to become a role model in its scheme for aiding meritorius poor students to pursue higher education.
District Collector Gopalakrishna Dwivedi has mooted the scheme of aiding poor students by mobilising the support of philanthropists.
The idea was to create a corpus fund, mustering the support of industrialists and philanthropic public, and aiding students who secure a total of 500 marks in Class X public examinations and 850 marks in intermediate examinations.
They will be provided financial assistance for taking coaching for joining professional courses and also the fee for further studies.
The Red Cross District Committee headed by the Collector as its chairman would manage the fund.
The scheme would come in to effect this academic year and already applications had been called for from the BPL students advising them to avail the opportunity.
The subject was raised at the district planning committee meeting by Rajahmundry MP Vundavilli Arun Kumar who complimented the Collector for the novel idea.
He said he had already brought the scheme to the notice of the Chief Minister who wanted the other districts to emulate.
