17 shops gutted as fire engulfs exhibition site

Vijayawada, May 18 (UNI) Seventeen shops were gutted in a fire at an agricultural and industrial exhibition at Swaraj Maidan here today.

According to fire brigade officials, the loss was estimated to be over Rs 10 lakh. Three fire tenders rushed to the spot and brought the blaze under control.

The officials said fire from a shop, where food was being prepared, spread to nearby goods, subsequently destroying other shops.
