HDDC calls off strike, CM to consider for separate dist
Aizawl, May 17 (UNI) The Hnahthial District Demand Committee (HDDC) today called off its 20-day-long hunger strike after Mizoram Chief Minister Zoramthanga assured to consider its demand.
Mr Zoramthanga in a meeting with Mizoram Kohhran Hruaitute (clergies) Committee yesterday assured to consider their demand for a separate Hnahthial district in the next Cabinet meeting this month.
HDDC information secretary V L Liansanga told UNI that they decided to call off the strike after the Chief Minister's assurance.
Mr Liansanga said Mr Zoramthanga has also assured to provide a general administration department surveyed boundaries for the demanded district.
''We will see if the Chief Minister's promise turns into a reality. If not, we will immediately resort to a mass agitation,'' Mr Liansanga said.
Hnahthial is currently a sub-division with three constituencies under Lunglei district, 180 kms from here.
