Congress expels former MLA Harjinder Singh
Amritsar, May 17 (UNI) The Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee (PPCC) today expelled former MLA Harjinder Singh Thekedar from the primary membership of the party for six years for violating party discipline.
Mr Thekedar, a close confidant of former Chief Minister Amarinder Singh, was the party candidate from the Amritsar (South) during the last elections but had lost.
He was an aspirant for the bypolls to the same seat to be held on May 22, but the party instead chose to field Navdeep Goldy.
Mr Thekedar had recently gone to the media accusing PPCC chief Rajinder Kaur Bhattal of asking for Rs 4 crore to allot the ticket.
The party, taking a prompt action, had asked him to explain his stand.
Since he failed to clarify his position, the PPCC decided to expel him, a party release said here.
