Governor expresses grief at Sodepur fire

Kolkata, May 16 (UNI) West Bengal Governor Gopalkrishna Gandhi expressed grief at the devastating fire at Sodepur today that resulted in tragic loss of lives.

In a communique received from the Raj Bhavan, the Governor also extended his heart-felt sympathy to the next of kins of the victims and his concern for the injured.

Meanwhile, Fire Services Minister Pratim Chakraborty said preliminary reports suggested that sparks emitted from welding work set ablaze some of the garments and carpets from where the fire spread to engulf the building.

The Minister said renovation work was on in the building after the authorities of the establishment shifted piles of stocks to one part of the building.
