New Delhi, May 15 (UNI) Mr Jyotiraditya Scindia, the new minister of state for telecom, today set the tone of his working and policy stating that the government needs to act less as a regulator and more as a facilitator.
''The telecom sector needs less regulation and the government needs to play the role of a facilitator,'' Mr Scindia said in an interactive session with telecom equipment manufacturers here.
The event was organised by Telecom Equipment Manufacturers Association (TEMA).
The minister got an opportunity to gear for stand the problems and vows of the manufacturers.
In the nearly two hour long meeting, the manufacturers debated the policy environment and the constraint in the way of speeding up the supply of telecom equipment.
Mr Scindia put the responsibility of telecom players to bridge the asymmetry of inequality of penetration in rural India.
''The growth of the telecom sector in India has been phenomenal but the penetration level of telecom sector across the country should be with the increased level of quality to the customer,'' he said.
