School for mahouts
Thrissur, May 15 (UNI) A school for mahouts, the first of its kind in the coutry for giving professional training to elephant handlers be started in Guruvayoor here this month.
The school would be located at the Kovilakom building inside the Punnathoor Kota, where the 65 elephants owned by the Guruvayoor Devaswom Board were camping. The school would be fully under the management of Guruvayoor Devaswom.
A museum concerning elephants would also be set up in the Kovilakom building. The devaswom administrative committee had sanctioned Rs 50 lakh for the renovation of the building.
Devaswom administrator V Rateesh said that the school would be inagurated by the Devaswm Minister G Sudhakaran on May 25.
