No need for Congress to start self-protection force: Bafna
Mumbai, May 15 (UNI) The Congress need not and should not start self-protection squads for the protection of north Indians residing in the city as every citizen is well protected in Maharashtra, said Madan Bafana, spokesperson for the NCP, today.
He was reacting to the idea of self-defence force mooted by Congress spokesperson Sanjay Nirupam yesterday.
Speaking to reporters here, Mr Bafana said the culture of Maharashtra is of peaceful co-existence and as such there was no need to press panic button for utterances of one person.
On the coming by-polls in Thane, he said his party was confidant of winning the Thane Lok Sabha by-election.
''The difference of 20,000 votes that had led to the defeat of their candidate in the 2004 elections, has now been made good as the party has gained more than one lack votes in subsequent municipal and Assembly elections in the Thane Lok Sabha constituency,'' added Mr Bafana.
