National Skill Development Corporation by month-end

New Delhi, May 15 (UNI) A Rs 1,000 crore private sector National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC), as announced in the Budget 2008-09, will be set up by this month-end, Finance Minister P Chidambaram said today.

The allocation for the Corporation would be raised to Rs 15,000 crore in times to come, Mr Chidambaram told reporters after the Cabinet meeting that gave the approval.

A non-profit organisation, NSDC will be run by top business leaders who will create a pool of skilled personnel in high-growth employment sectors such as banking, health care, automobiles, real estate, tourism, hospitality and travel trade, gems and jewellery, food processing and media, entertainment and animation.

The public sector will continue with the skill development programmes run by different ministries and departments.

The PM's Council for Skill Development will be the apex body for such programmes.

A Board will also be set up to coordinate the programmes.
