Srinagar, May 15 (UNI) Jammu and Kashmir High Court has decided to monitor the investigation into a case related to the disappearance of a person allegedly after he was picked up by a senior counter-insurgent leader.
The court directed the investigating officer concernd to report about the progress of the investigation to it.
The court orders came on a petition filed by one Zahoor Ahmad Mir through his counsel advocate Pervez Imroz alleging that his father Ali Mohammad Mir was picked up by former government gunman Papa Kishtwari in 1996.
The petition said Mir was never seen again after Kishtwari, who is allegedly involved in a number of murder cases, abducted him.
The petitioner said his father was killed by the accused.
Despite court directions to complete the investigation in a specified period of time, the probing team failed to file a charge sheet against Kishtwari who has been in jail for one year.
Advocate Imroz had expressed apprehension due to political connections of the accused, the investigation was being delayed.
However, the additional advocate general informed the court that the case has been referred to special investigation team as directed by the State Human Rights Commission (SHRC).
The court directed the Superintendent of Police (SP) East, who is heading the investigation, to report to it on May 24.
The case has been listed for May 28.
