Govt relaxes BRGF's mandatory condition
New Delhi, May 15 (UNI) The Government today relaxed the mandatory condition under Backward Regions Grant Fund (BRGF), which would help implement BRGF programme in Jharkhand.
The condition required participatory plans to be prepared by Panchayats at the district, intermediate and village levels and consolidated by the District Planning Committee into the district plan.
With the relaxation Jharkhand would be eligible to draw funds under the BRGF provided that they undertake a participative mode of preparation of the district plans from the grassroots upwards, through Gram Sabhas and traditional tribal bodies in Schedule five areas which would be approved by State High Powered Committee chaired by the Chief Secretary.
This relaxation would apply till such reasonable time as may be required for the state to constitute Panchayats in accordance with the final decisions in the pending litigation before the Supreme Court.
