BJP leader 'absconding' after attacking Cong worker

Bangalore, May 15 (UNI) Police today registered an attempt to murder case against former minister and BJP leader B Sriramulu for allegedly attacking a Congress worker.

Police sources said Sriramulu had been accused of attacking the Congress worker, a relative of Diwakar Babu. The latter, the JD(S) candidate from Bellary city segment, had deserted the party and extended his support to the Congress nominee Anil Lad in this political volatile district.

Eyewitness reports said the BJP leader, who is contesting from Bellary rural segment, along with three others attacked the Congress worker this morning. When the police went to the residence of Sriramulu to arrest him, he was found missing. A case had been registered at Gandhi Nagar police station.

Police then took another BJP leader G Janaradhan Reddy, MLC and a close confidant of Sriramulu, to the police station for an inquiry in this connection.

Tension prevailed in front of the police station as BJP workers gathered in large numbers following the rumours thinking that Reddy was arrested. However the MLC came out of the police station after answering to the queries of the police officials.
