Authority for urban transport in MP

Bhopal, May 15 (UNI) An Urban Transport Authority will be constituted in Madhya Pradesh for coordinated and planned development of transport system in the state's urban areas.

In another major change, the responsibility of urban traffic and transport, which was hitherto looked after by the Transport department, has been handed over to Urban Administration and Development department.

A decision in this regard was taken by the state cabinet presided over by Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan here yesterday.

Along with urban traffic control, the Urban Administration and Development department will be entrusted with the responsibility of selecting proper multi-model transport, fixation and revision of fares, parking policy, intelligent transport system and other safety measures related with traffic, official sources said.

The change of controlling department was effected as urban land use was directly related with traffic system, the sources added.
