UPA anti-women: Kiran Maheshwari
Kottayam, May 14 (UNI) BJP Mahila Morcha National president Kiran Maheshwari, today criticised the Congress and the UPA Government for not settling the women's reservation Bill issue and controlling the price spiral.
Talking to mediapersons here, the Mahila Morcha chief alleged that the UPA government was 'anti- women'.
Mahila Morcha was for empowerment of women politically as well as socially and economically. The issue of women's reservation was not getting settled due to the ''double standards'' of the Congress.
The BJP could not carry the Bill because of opposition from the Congress and it's allies. Even though the UPA had promised women's reservation in its Common Minimum Programme, it had made no progress on that.
Criticising the Congress for the price rise, she charged that they could not see the suffering of common man due to uncontrolled price rise.
Referring to the shortage and ''black marketing'' of LPG, she said the moment the Congress came to power, shortage was created.
The Mahila Morcha chief charged the ''Congress - Communist government'' with total politicisation of National Women's Commission.
The Commission was making statements against state governments ruled by the BJP and it's allies, she said.
Cultural nationalism was the basic philosophy of the BJP. It believes in decentralisation, deregulation, coordination and social justice. The BJP-ruled state governments were women friendly. All these states had made 50 per cent reservation for women in local bodies, she said.
Special measures were taken for increasing the ratio of women in police force, teachers and other state services in these states, she said.
Membership campaign of the Mahila Morcha would start shortly.
Women especially in the 25-35 age group would be given membership.
The intention was to give one crore new memberships in order to double the membership of the Mahila Morcha.
