IT Appellate Tribunal member caught red handed
New Delhi, May 14 (UNI) An Accoutant member of the Income Tax Appellate Tribunal was caught red handed while accepting a bribe of Rs 30 lakh in Kolkata.
The CBI said here that the yet unnamed official was arresed from his Nizam Palace residence last night along with two others who were offering him the bribe to seek undue favours for a firm in income-tax related matters.
The anti-corruption branch of CBI Kolkata had a reliable information that the accused official had negotiated a bribe of Rs 30 lakh from the firm, which was to be paid to him at his residence.
Acting on the information, a trap was laid by the ACB team and the Accountant Member was caught red-handed while accepting the bribe from two persons. The trio were arrested on the spot by the CBI. The proprietor of the firm was arrested later.
The ACB had earlier registered a case under section 120B of the IPC and Section 7 and 12 of the Prevention of the Corruption Act, 1988 against the four arrested persons on the basis of the information.
