Fire fighters engage in drum beating over demands

Nashik, May 14 (UNI) Fire Brigade employees of the Nashik Municipal Corporation (NMC) today observed a ''Dhol Bajao'' agitation for their various demands.

These employees have been agitating for their demands over the past one-and-half month, and have been adopting novel methods of protest. Earlier, the employees had reported for work without wearing the mandatory uniform. On another occasion, they had come clad only in their undergarments.

Today, the employees, again clad only in their undergarments, observed a ''Dhol-Bajao'' agitation in front of the NMC headquarters by beating drums. Former corporator Tanaji Jaybhave led the agitation.

The employees are demanding, among other things, a steady supply of uniforms, remuneration for the extra work that they had done during the ''Sinhastha'' period in 2003-04, implementation of technical pay-scale, time-bound promotions, and encashment of leaves.
