APHDCL to export handicrafts to China, Japan

Tirupati, May 14 (UNI) As part of its global expansion programme, the Andhra Pradesh Handicrafts Development Corporation Limited (APHDCL) is planning to export handicrafts made of red sandalwood to China and Japan this year.

Addressing a press conference here today, Corporation Managing Director V Venktramaiah said it had already acquired 20 tonnes of red sandalwood from the State Forest Department for the purpose.

''We are planning to export Rs five crore worth handicrafts, having more demand at the international market, every year. The Corporation has participated in the international handicrafts exhibitions at the US, the UK, Malaysia and Germany and received a good response.'' The APHDCL's turnover had reached Rs 51 crore in 2007-08 and set its target at Rs 62 crore turnover in 2008-09.
