5 held for betting on IPL matches, Rs 60 lakh seized
Guntur, May 14 (UNI) Police arrested a five-member gang on charges of betting on the ongoing DLF IPL matches and other International matches and seized Rs 60 lakh, 13 cell phones and one laptop from their possession, at Ponnuru in the district last night.
Police said, on a tip-off, the local police, with the assistance of a special branch police, raided the house of one K Ramakoteswara Rao and made the arrests.
The accused confessed that they were engaged in betting since last month and had contacts with more than 50 people in Guntur, Vijayawada, Chennai and Ponnuru.
The betting involved huge amount of cash transactions, the police added.
