2,400 people punished for drunken driving

Mumbai, May 14(UNI) Mumbai Traffic Police have awarded simple punishment to 2,400 people till May 12 for drunken driving under the section 185 of Motor Vehicles Act, as against 2,623 people during the same period last year.

They had suspended motor driving license of 2,670 people this year as against 2,798 for drunken driving during the same period respectively. Simple imprisonment for dangerous driving was awarded to 57 people as compared to 47 for the same period.

The traffic police had suspended motor driving license of 08 persons this year, as compared to 62 for dangerous driving, under section 184 Motor Vehicles Act.

During the special drive, total 5,482 cases of drunken driving, 1,096 for dangerous driving, 4,088 for safety belt, 1,500 for tail light, 2,386 for action against taxi/auto rickshaw nearby station area, 26,989 for pressure/musical/reverse and honking horn, 3,210 for halting at pedestrians crossing and 553 for jay-walking were found. The drive was conducted from January 1 this year, an official release said here today.
