17th Karmapa's US visit: First outside India since 2000

New Delhi, May 14 (UNI) The 17th Gyalwang Karmapa Rinpoche, Ogyen Trinley Dorje, head of the Kamtsang Kagyud, will tomorrow embark on his first ever visit to a country outside India.

Gyalwang Karmapa Rinpoche will visit the US from May 15 to June 2. He had arrived in India on January 5, 2000, after fleeing Tibet.

Kamtsang Kagyud is one of the four greater sub-sects of Kagyud school of Tibetan Buddhism.

During the visit, the Karmapa will deliver a series of public teachings in New York, Boulder, Colorado and Seattle.

In New York, he will deliver lectures on ''Awakening the Heart of Enlightenment'' on May 17 and ''Cutting Through Confusion: Discovering the Wisdom of Our Own Minds'' on May 18.

On May 25, the Karmapa will deliver lecture on ''Healing the Earth with Enlightened Mind'' at University of Colorado in Boulder.

From May 31 to June 1, he will confer a two-day lecture on ''Building a Strong Foundation for Spiritual Practice and Aspiration for the World: Transforming Our Hearts and Living in Harmony with the Environment'' in Seattle, a statement by the Central Tibetan Administration said.
