Sahitya Akademi condoles Haryanavi scholar's death

Chandigarh, May 13 (UNI) A condolence meeting was organised today in the premises of Haryana Sahitya Akademi to condole the death of Dr Shankar Lal Yadav, a renowned scholar of Haryanavi folk literature.

After retirement from the post of Professor in Lucknow University, Dr Yadav--the first awardee of Haryanavi award initiated by the Akademi--was living with his son Gen Rajeshwar Yadav.

Dr Yadav was born in 1920 at Bulandshahar and lived in Haryana during the period from 1949 to 1960. The research work done by him on the Haryanavi folk literature is serving as a reference document for the students of research and scholars of folk literature even today.

A collection of Haryanavi folk tales edited by him has also been published by the Akademi.

Dr Yadav has been associated with various litterateurs and literary institutes and had also been honoured with Akhil Bhartiya Lok Bhushan Samman by the Uttar Pradesh Hindi Sansthan. As many as 35 students completed their Ph D under his guidance.
