Police nab robber, seize booty

Hyderabad, May 13 (UNI) The anti-dacoity team of the city police today nabbed a notorious robber and stolen property worth Rs 3.75 lakh, including gold ornaments from his possession.

Addressing a press conference here, Additional Commissioner of Police (Crime) K Narasimha Rao said the accused V Balakrishna alias Shankar had committed two robberies in the city last month.

On April 5, he robbed gold worth Rs 52,000 by threatening the inmates of a house at knife point. He looted gold and cash worth Rs 2.75 lakhs in another robbery on April 12.

The anti-dacoity rescue team which was keeping a watch over ex-convicts, the accused was found moving about in suspicious circumstances in Warangal district. The team apprehended him and on interrogation, he confessed to have committed the offences.

Mr Narasimha Rao said the police recovered items, including 14 tolas of gold ornaments, 100 grams of silver items, Colour TVs and three cellphones, all worth Rs 3.75 lakhs from him.

Balakrishna had underwent imprisonment in Vijayawada in 2003.

Earlier, he had worked as a driver to a realtor for two years in the city. He was also involved in 30 pick-pocketing cases in the city, the Additiional Commissioner said.
