Notorious gangster Ayub Khan held

Hyderabad, May 13 (UNI) The sleuths of the city police Commissioner's task force today arrested a notorious gangster and history sheeter Ayub Khan, involved in 48 cases and absconding since 2005.

Addressing a press conference here, Police Commissioner B Prasada Rao said that the criminal was arrested in Gulbarga in Karnataka state. He was involved in 48 cases including murder, dacotiy, robbery, attempt to murder, extortion and several cases of land grabbing and forcible settlements.

Among the 20 gang-members the police had already arrested ten and efforts were on to nab the remaining.

In April 2007, he had attacked task force police with deadly weapons when they tried to apprehend him, he said.

He had created terror in the minds of general public by organising crime syndicates and had been committing offences on the lines of Mafia gang and started extortions using deadly weapons, the commissioner said.

He was in the judicial custody for three years and after release from jail in Feb 2005, he absconded without attending the court trials and made desperate attempts to eliminate the crucial witnesses in the murder cases, he said.

He had acquired properties worth about Rs 55 crore in Gulbarga and Hyderabad, the Commissioner added.
