High alert sounded in K'taka

Bangalore, May 13 (UNI) A high alert was sounded in Karnataka following the serial bomb blasts in Jaipur this evening.

Director General of Police (DGP) R Sri Kumar told UNI that high alert had been sounded through out the state.

''We are already in a high alert mode due to the ongoing elections and heavy security arrangements are in place in most parts of the state,'' he said.

As part of the election process, the state was under an elaborate security cover with deployment of over 300 companies of para military forces, apart from entire state reserve police, home guards, state armed reserve and the regular police force, he said.

Additional Commissioner of Police Gopal Hosur said extra security had been provided at the Bangalore International Airport and railway stations within the city.

''We are on high alert and checking persons and baggage in the airport and various railway stations,'' he said.

Several trains slated to leave the city tonight were delayed as Railway Police Force along with the local police made thorough check of bags and belongings of the passengers, he added.
