Man drives into canal along with wife, unmarried daughters
Anandpur Sahib, Rupnagar, May 12 (UNI) A Rupnagar resident committed suicide along with his wife and two unmarried daughters by driving their car into the Nangal Hydel Channel near Anandpur Sahib last night, police said today.
According to information, Gurcharan Singh (47), a resident of Rupnagar town and an iron-dealer, went to Anandpur Sahib yesterday along with his wife Jaswant Kaur (44), daughters Kamaljit Kaur (24) and Seema (19) for 'paying obeisance' at Takht Kesgarh Sahib.
However, he contacted his brother on phone around 2100 hrs and told him that they would never return to Rupnagar again.
Thereafter, he apparently drove the car into Nangal Hydel Channel near village Lamheri, police said.
The car, along with bodies of Gurcharan Singh and Jaswant Kaur were fished out of the canal this afternoon while search was on for the bodies of the two girls.
Police have also recovered a suicide note from the pocket of Gurcharan Singh in which he has stated that he was mentally disturbed as he was under the debt of Rs three lakhs, his wife had been keeping unwell and he had not been able to marry off his daughters.
He added that no body should be held responsible for their suicide.
Jaswant Singh had four daughters and two of whom are married.
