AR troops help in conducting eye camp in interior Manipur

Imphal, May 12 (UNI) The 23 Assam Rifles (AR) of HQ 10 Sector under IGAR (South), in conjunction with the Central Mobile Ophthalmic Unit, Manipur, conducted a week-long eye camp at Shangshak in Ukhrul district.

During the week-long camp, which concluded yesterday in interior villages, doctors from the Central Mobile Ophthalmic Unit team, led by Dr Kh Kaminibabu Singh and Dr Kh Rajendra Singh of Manipur Health Services, provided treatment to the patients.

The team, along with AR staff, assisted by Asst Comdt Dr Dithi Chakrabarti, brought much needed relief and help to the people of the remote hill district.

About 163 patients turned up for the eye camp from remote places, including Shangshak, Leishi, Tasharchong, Litan, Leingaching, Sanathen, Shangching, Lungshang, Nungshang, Ramva, Finch Conner, Yaingangpokpi, Gwaltabi, Maphau Dam, Koushon, Tashan and Shokavo villages.

A perfect coordination with various agencies resulted in an unprecedented gathering, covering almost 30 villages, and meticulous and thorough eye check-ups.

At least 17 people were operated upon for cataract and various eye related diseases.

Besides, 240 people were provided with spectacles free of cost.
