9 bookies held while betting on cricket match

Mumbai, May 12 (UNI) Police arrested nine bookies from a hotel at Marol here while accepting bets on the IPL cricket match between King Eleven Punjab and Chennai Super King Saturday last.

Deputy Commissioner of Police M M Prasanna told mediapersons here today that the police, acting on a tip off, raided Hotel Sahara Garden off Marol-Manosi Road and arrested the nine from room number 602 of the hotel.

Police have seized Rs 2.2 lakh in cash, 12 mobile phones, a television set and other materials from the spot, Mr Prasanna said.

The nine have been identified as Harilal Nisar (43), Parmbhav Nandu (49), Raoji Gala (48), Pravin Gada (50), Hansraj Shah (50), Mulchand Vora (50), Raoji Savla (59), Damoji Gada (50) and Khimji Rabiya (54).

During interrogations, the name of one more person based in Gujarat was revealed, police added.
